It’s all Greek to me!!

Αυτό είναι το μήνυμα που ακούω σε όλους τους τόνους σήμερα. Καταλαβαίνω ότι το να γράφω στα Ελληνικά θα κάνει δύσκολη την παρακολούθηση του blog για τους φίλους από άλλες χώρες αλλά πιστεύω ότι τα γραπτά μου θα έχουν μεγαλύτερο ενδιαφέρον για τους συμπατριώτες μου παρά για τους πολίτες άλλων χωρών.

Προσπάθησα να βελτιώσω τη κατάσταση, με την εγκατάσταση της εφαρμογής μετάφρασης του Google, αλλά η ποιότητα της μετάφρασης είναι πολύ κακή και μερικές φορές απλά το κείμενο δεν διαβάζεται. Επομένως θα κάνω το εξής: Θα μεταφράσω στα Αγγλικά τις σελίδες ποιά είμαι και ποιό είναι το αντικείμενο του blog, κα οι μελλοντικές αναρτήσεις κειμένων θα έχουν Ελληνικό και Αγγλικό τίτλο, και ανάλογα με τον χρόνο που διαθέτω, δυνατόν να μεταφράζω κάποια θα ενδιαφέρουν τους αναγνώστες.

Ετσι δεν θα λένε πιά οι αλλοδαποί φίλοι it’s all Greek to me!…

This is the message I get today from non-Greek readers of this blog. I knew that writing in Greek language would be difficult from friends from other countries to follow me, but I believe that what I write here is of more interest to my compatriotes than to citizens of other countries.

I have tried to correct it by installing the google translate widget but the translation quality is very poor and sometimes the text is simply not readable. Therefore, I will do the following: I will translate in English the about and what this blog is about pages and the future posts will have both a Greek and English title, and depending on time availability, I may translate posts that are of interest to you.

So I hope it wil not be Greek to you…

Τι φέρνει το epatientGR Blog; What is brought by epatientGR Blog?

epatientGR; Τί περίεργο όνομα για blog; Τί σημαίνει; Πως το διάλεξες;

Αυτές είναι μερικές από τις ερωτήσεις που άκουσα από φίλους, όταν τους είπα ότι άρχισα αυτό το blog. Εδώ θα μοιράζομαι με όλους εσάς σκέψεις, νέα, προτάσεις που αφορούν τους ασθενείς, ιδιαίτερα τους ασθενείς με καρκίνο, τα δικαιώματα των ασθενών και πως εφαρμόζεται η σχετική νομοθεσία από τους αρμόδιους φορείς, σκέψεις και θέματα που αφορούν τη στρατηγική διοίκηση, την επικοινωνία, το μάρκετιγκ των οργανώσεων ασθενών, την ηλεκτρονική υγεία (e-health, και όλα τα σχετικά όπως health 2.0, electronic patient record–EHR, mobile-health, e-practice, κ.ά.), πολιτικές υγείας στην χώρα μας και την Ε.Ε., θέματα της καθημερινής ζωής που κίνησαν το ενδιαφέρον μου και άλλα πολλά…

Θα επανέλθω στην ερώτησή σας: τί είναι, τί σημαίνει e-patient; Ο όρος αυτός δημιουργήθηκε από τον Αμερικανό γιατρό και ερευνητή Τομ Φέργκιουσον, που πέθανε το 2006, για να δηλώσει τα άτομα που είναι εξοπλισμένα με γνώσεις, με σθένος, ικανά, και συμμετέχουν ενεργά σε όλα τα θέματα που αφορούν την υγεία τους και τις αποφάσεις για την ιατρική τους περίθαλψη.

H Trisha Torrey, συνήγορος ασθενών (patient advocate)  και δημοσιογράφος στην ιστοσελίδα www.about.com δημιούργησε τον όρο ΕmPatients (από το empowered patients) για να προσδιορίσει τους ασθενείς που συμμετέχουν στα θέματα της υγείας τους και της ιατρικής τους περίθαλψης, που συνεργάζονται ενεργά με τους γιατρούς τους προκειμένου να συμμετάσχουν στην λήψη ιατρικών αποφάσεων που τους αφορούν. Οι όροι e-patient και EmPatients είναι συνώνυμοι, άν και πολλοί πιστεύουν ότι ο e-patient (ηλεκτρονικός ασθενής (κακόηχο!!) στη γλώσσα μας ) είναι κάποιος που χρησιμοποιεί πολύ το διαδίκτυο για ενημέρωση σε θέματα υγείας. Αυτό δεν είναι καθόλου απαραίτητο, απλά το διαδίκτυο φέρνει πιό κοντά στον πολίτη την πληροφόρηση.

Οσο για μένα, είμαι e-patient ήδη από την δεκαετία του ’80, όπου η πληροφόρηση υπήρχε μόνον στις βιβλιοθήκες και τα βιβλιοπωλεία. Αυτά τα λίγα για την αρχή…..

epatientGR; What a strange name for a blog; What does it mean? How do you choose it?

These are some of the questions I heard from friends when I told them that I started this blog. I  will share with you thoughts, news, ideas on healthcare from the patient view, especially from the breast cancer patient view, comments on patients’ rights and on the implementation of the pertinent legislation by the bodies in charge, thoughts and issues related to strategic management, communications and  marketing of patient organizations,  e-health and related issues such as the electronic patient record-EHR, mobile-health, e-practice, etc., health policies in our country and E.U., the small and big things of everyday life that triggered my attention and much more …

I  come back to your question: what is meant by e-patient; The term was created by the American physician and researcher Tom Ferguson, who died in 2006, to designate individuals who are equipped with knowledge, courage, capable, and who participate actively in all matters concerning their health and decisions about their medical care.

Trisha Torrey, counsel patient (patient advocate) and a journalist at www.about.com created the term EmPatients (Em-powered patients) to identify patients who participate in their health and medical care, who collaborate with their doctors in the decision making about their healthcare. The terms e-patient and EmPatients are synonymous, although many believe that the term e-patient (electronic patient is not the best it could be in Greek language!) signifies someone who uses a lot of the internet for health information. This is not at all necessary, simply internet just brings the information closer to people.

As for me, I am an e-patient since the 8Os, well before the internet arrived, when information was only available in libraries and bookstores. This is my short profile, as a starter to this blog, ……
